Twilight author and multi-millionaire Stephenie Meyer has a lot more than just lovelorn vampires up her sleeves.
The first trailer for her next big-screen adaptation The Host has just been released online (watch above). It's a gripping introduction to what director Andrew Niccol (In Time, Gattaca), calls "an alien love story".

Based on Meyer's 2008 novel about an alien invasion of earth and its inhabitants' minds, the film focuses on teenage Melanie (Atonement Oscar nominee, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan), one of the few free spirits left. An alien named the Wanderer fuses with Melanie's soul to try find the last pocket of human survivors on earth.
Like current teen sensation The Hunger Games, The Host offers up another bleak, futuristic sci-fi literary dystopia brought to life on film.
It wouldn't be a Stephenie Meyer story without a romance — and here it's between Melanie, her soul and Jared (Max Irons, son of Oscar winner Jeremy Irons).
The Host hits cinemas March 28, 2013. Before that arrives, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 will land in cinemas November 15.
