Marc Forster’s World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, finally has a trailer to match its hype.

In the clip, we see Pitt’s character Gerry racing against time to find a way to stop the spread of a zombie outbreak, including footage of a wasted cityscape, emotive family moments, thrilling action sequences and zombies galore!

Zombies have been growing in popularity with cult TV series The Walking Dead, games like Dead Island and popular franchises, spin-offs and remakes such as 28 Days Later, Resident Evil and Shaun of the Dead — each with their own take on the zombie sub-genre.

World War Z’s zombies resemble those of Jack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake in 2005 in the tradition of horror auteur George A. Romero’s legacy of Night of the Living Dead in 1968.

Visual effects supervisor of World War Z, John Nelson has compared the movements of the zombies they call “Z’s” to that of “predatory animals that can’t control themselves.

“I worked with tigers.” Nelson told Entertainment Weekly, “and if you watch them when a horse goes by they go batty, even if they know they can’t reach it. When Z’s see humans, they do [the] same thing – they activate. They launch themselves.”

World War Z hits cinemas on June 2013, but you can watch the Z’s in action in the trailer above.
