Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted Reviews

Our Review

A wild ride for the whole family

Dom Phillips, MovieFix
In this latest Madagascar instalment, noted writer Noah Baumbach (Greenberg, Fantastic Mr Fox) joins the herd with directors Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, to create a rollicking family movie with a solid plot and many laughs for young and old.

Alex (Ben Stiller), Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer) and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) are left behind in Africa by the always-scheming penguins, flying to Monte Carlo via the makeshift plane created in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

Using snorkels, they swim across the Mediterranean to catch up with the penguins, hoping to eventually get back to home, the NYC zoo. After creating havoc in a casino, they are targeted by the villainous Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand) from Animal Control, who wants Alex's head as a trophy. DuBois displays tracking dog abilities, (literally!) and is relentless in her hunt. On the run, our friends team up with a decaying travelling circus, headed by Vitaly (Bryan Cranston), a gruff, knife-throwing Russian tiger and convince them they are circus animals themselves.

Vitaly's old-school circus is revamped with modern flair, including Alex's clumsy trapeze act with sexy Gia (Jessica Chastain) and the emotional Roberto Benigni-like sea-lion Stefano (Martin Short), who has long dreamed of being shot out of a cannon.

Dreamworks have outdone themselves with the glorious 3D rendering in Madagascar 3, especially with the circus scenes, accompanied by the modern dance-pop soundtrack. They are truly breathtaking, and leave kids and parents alike with a feeling of excitement and celebration.

The Madagascar series has always benefited from the well-chosen voice cast, especially Rock and Schwimmer's so-NYC profiles, with Rock's loudmouthed street savvy and Schwimmer's Brooklyn-Jewish neurosis underlying the juxtaposition of city life and the wild.

But Fargo Oscar winner McDormand steals the limelight, hilariously haute French, even singing Edith Piaf.

Take a walk on the not-so-wild side and enjoy this movie.

a bit wierd though
Great movie
it was great
If you are avoiding this because it's the "third" in the series, don't fear. Madagascar 3 is a strong, well-told story which brings the series to its perfect conclusion. It is a joyous, funny, entertaining ride. The music is great, the scenes and action build through the movie and the ending is satisfying for all of the characters you've grown to love over the course of the three films. Fantastic.
A movie for kids only. I am sure no adult would enjoy , not at like the first one . Send the kids on their own to this one .
